The Indianapolis Indians have been short-handed recently due to the shoulder soreness suffered by Trevor Williams, along with A.J. Schugel and Rob Scahill being promoted to the majors. They added Chad Kuhl yesterday and he will start in place of Williams tonight. Today they added John Kuchno to help the bullpen. He is active for tonight’s game.
Kuchno spent all of last season in Altoona, where he made 40 relief appearances. In 67.2 innings, he had a 3.46 ERA, posting an impressive 2.59 GO/AO ratio. He has ran into trouble in both of his outings this season, giving up five runs over 3.2 innings.
Frank Duncan takes the place of Kuchno in Altoona and he will be used in long relief this year, possibly getting some spot starts. He has been down in Extended Spring Training, recovering from an oblique injury he suffered last month. Duncan made 25 starts and two relief appearances for Bradenton last year, posting a 4.32 ERA in 152 innings. He too had an impressive ground ball rate, with a 1.95 GO/AO ratio.
