The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially announced the call up of outfielder Keon Broxton from Indianapolis. To make room on the 40-man roster for Broxton, Jung-Ho Kang was placed on the 60-day disabled list. As first reported here yesterday, Broxton will add some speed, power and depth to the Pirates’ bench for the last two weeks. He stole 39 bases in the minors this season, splitting his time between Altoona and Indianapolis. He was the only Pirates’ minor leaguer this season to reach double digits in doubles, triples, homers and steals.
This move also keeps Broxton from becoming a minor league free agent at the end of the season.
