The Pittsburgh Pirates have sent shortstop Pedro Florimon outright to Indianapolis after he cleared waivers on Tuesday afternoon. Florimon was designated for assignment last Wednesday when the Pirates needed to add Josh Wall to the 40-man roster.
He played 15 games with the Pirates, going 2-for-19 at the plate, though one of the hits was his game-winning triple in the 15th innings of a 9-8 win over the Diamondbacks last Tuesday. It was that game that actually caused him to get DFA’d, as Wall was added to help a depleted bullpen. Florimon would have been gone anyway within a few days with Josh Harrison and Jordy Mercer returning to the roster. With his defense and speed, it’s possible that he is a September call-up, although the Pirates have a lot of infielders now and other options with Indianapolis.
