Game Notes: Indianapolis won 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon behind strong pitching from starter Chris Volstad and three relievers. Volstad gave up one run over 6.1 innings. Blake Wood picked up his 12th save with a clean ninth inning, needing just eight pitches. Alen Hanson reached base three times, with two single,a walk and a run scored. Steve Lombardozzi and Brent Morel each had an RBI, accounting for the two Indianapolis runs. Gustavo Nunez raised his average to .311 with two hits. He also had two sacrifice bunts. Despite the high average, all 33 of his hits have been singles this year. Mel Rojas Jr. had a tough day at the bottom of the order, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Game Notes: Wednesday night’s game provided an interesting pitcher’s duel between Chad Kuhl and New Britain’s Shane Carle. During the 2013 draft, Kuhl was drafted by the Pirates in the ninth round, while Carle was taken one round later. During the off-season, he was dealt to the Rockies for reliever Rob Scahill. The two battled it out for six innings, with Kuhl pitching shutout ball and Carle allowing just one run. The Curve went to Yhonathan Barrios for two innings, while Carle remained in the game. In the eighth, he allowed a two-run homer to Jacob Stallings. Kuhl finished with seven strikeouts, a new season high. Willy Garcia had two hits and a walk. Keon Broxton drove in a run in the third inning, his 26th RBI of the year.

Game Notes: Luis Heredia made his third start and it was a lot like his second. His pitch count was just short of 70 through four innings, ending his day early. He was erratic at times, but got some help from his defense and some eager Daytona hitters that made outs on multiple 2-0 counts. Heredia has not been sharp in any of his three starts, giving up a total of eight runs on 11 hits and seven walks in 8.2 innings. He threw 71 pitches over four innings in his last start and in his debut, he reached his single inning pitch limit in the first before he could get out of the inning.
Harold Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 25 games. It began last year with West Virginia and was put on pause when he was injured in early July. He returned to the lineup Tuesday night and continued his streak. On Wednesday, he went 2-for-3 with a walk and he drove in two runs. The Marauders got stolen bases from JaCoby Jones(8th of the season), Barrett Barnes(fifth) and the first from both Ramirez and Jose Osuna. Jones drove in two runs.

Game Notes: After winning in 14 innings on Tuesday night, West Virginia was back at it in the morning and they ended up losing in 11 innings on Wednesday. Colten Brewer pitched and got hit around, allowing five runs on ten hits and two walks. Julio Vivas followed him with one run over three inning in his West Virginia debut. With the “Sunday lineup” going, Elvis Escobar batted lead-off and had three hits, including two doubles. Michael Suchy hit his second homer of the season and Jordan Luplow had two hits, including his tenth double of the year. Kawika Emsley-Pai is hitting .415 this year after a 2-for-4 game. Tito Polo went 1-for-14 with five strikeouts in the three-game series.
