Andrew Lambo Placed on DL, Pirates Call Up Steve Lombardozzi

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed outfielder Andrew Lambo on the 15-day disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. To take his place on the roster, the Pirates have selected INF/OF Steve Lombardozzi, who had to be added to the 40-man roster.

The switch-hitting Lombardozzi is batting .379/.460/.483 in 24 games this season for Indianapolis. He has played both corner outfield positions, as well as 2B, SS and 3B this year. Lombardozzi has played parts of four seasons in the Majors, last with the Baltimore Orioles in 2014. He is a career .266/.297/.341 hitter in 277 games.

Lambo is just 1-for-25 at the plate this year, with a double and two walks.

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
