The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated right-handed pitchers Jared Jones and Carmen Mlodzinski from the injured list, prior to Tuesday night’s game. To make room on the roster, the Pirates optioned Ji Hwan Bae to Triple-A and designated Brady Feigl for assignment.
Jones will make the start on Tuesday night against the Cubs, which will be his first start in the Majors since July 3rd. He returned for a rehab assignment on August 8th, finishing strong with five shutout innings a week ago. He struck out ten in that contest, while walking one and allowing one hit.
Mlodzinski has been out since July 29th. He returned on August 20th, and pitched three rehab appearances with Indianapolis. Two of those were scoreless outings, including 1.2 scoreless innings on Sunday.
Bae was hitting .189/.247/.216 in his time in the Majors. The Pirates are moving Oneil Cruz to center field, and recently saw the return of Nick Gonzales at second base. They recently put Michael A. Taylor on outright waivers, but he went unclaimed. With Taylor remaining on the roster, there’s no need for Bae off the bench.
Feigl was called up as relief depth, making his Major League debut at the age of 33. He pitched last night, allowing six runs in 1.2 innings. He recorded the final out in the seventh, allowed a solo homer in the eighth, and the wheels fell off in the ninth inning.
The 40-man roster now sits at 38.
