Pirates Prospect Watch: Jared Jones Strikes Out Ten in Five Shutout Innings

Published:

Jared Jones looks like he’s ready for a return to the big leagues.

On Tuesday, the right-hander threw five shutout innings in his latest rehab appearance for Indianapolis, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out ten.

Jones sat 97.6 MPH with his fastball, hitting 99.5. He had nine whiffs on 24 swings against the pitch, along with six called strikes for a 39% called and swinging strike rate. His slider had six whiffs on 14 swings, with three more called strikes for a 38% CSW. He also threw eight curveballs and three changeups, with the curveball getting four called strikes.

This was the third rehab appearance for Jones, who pitched 2.2 and 3.1 innings in his previous two appearances. He also combined for six earned runs in those two starts. Tuesday’s outing went much better, and you’d have to imagine Jones will return to the big league rotation after this performance.
