Pirates Prospect Watch: Thomas Harrington Returns to the Mound

Published:

Right-handed pitcher Thomas Harrington made his return to the mound on Tuesday night for Bradenton. Harrington, who is rehabbing from a shoulder issue in Spring Training, pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out three.

Harrington is currently one of the top ten prospects in the system, and slated for Altoona this year. Last year he combined for a 3.53 ERA in 127.1 innings during his first professional season. The 36th overall pick in the 2022 draft had a 2.77 ERA in 39 innings for Bradenton, before moving up to Greensboro for a 3.87 ERA in 88.1 innings. He combined to strike out 146 across the two A-ball levels.

Seeing Harrington return to the mound is a positive sign, not just because he’s healthy again, but because he’ll get a chance to continue his development. Double-A will be a bigger test than anything he saw last year. However, Harrington’s confidence and aptitude toward the game will allow him to handle that challenge with more ease than most prospects.
