Pirates Prospect Watch: J.P. Massey Leads Greensboro to Victory

Published:

J.P. Massey had his best start of the season for Greensboro on Wednesday. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits in six innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Massey is returning to Greensboro for the second season, after spending the second half of 2023 at the level. The right-hander has dealt with control issues this year, walking 17 in 28 innings. He also has struck out 24 in that span, and limited opponents to one home run. Massey isn’t getting hit a lot, allowing one hit per inning.

With three walks in six innings on Wednesday, plus a hit batter, the control was still an issue. Massey still limited damage this time, putting Greensboro in position for a 2-1 win. If he can improve the control, his stuff is good enough to generate these types of results more consistently.
