One year ago today, the Pittsburgh Pirates acquired Johan Oviedo from the St. Louis Cardinals, in a deal for Jose Quintana and Chris Stratton.
Oviedo has a 4.60 ERA on the season as a member of the Pirates’ rotation, and makes his 22nd start of the season tonight.
It makes you wonder which players acquired today might be on this big league club next season. Lineups, pitchers, and trade links are below. Join in on the game or deadline day discussion in the comments, and check back tonight for my recap of the deadline.

Nice victory for GMBC on trade deadline day:
*win by Oviedo (trade)
*save by Bednar (trade)
*RBI’s by Peguero (trade), Endy (trade); & Palacios (ML, rule 5);
*2 hits by Alika (trade)
Outside of the Clay Holmes and Josh Bell misses, Ben’s moves are starting to take shape and they are looking good.
Nice win, nice game Oviedo and only nine pitches from Bednar. Great day all around.
Two hours and four minutes!
Is there something about how Bryan Reynolds hits that makes him easier to defend than most other hitters? I swear he hits more line drives at people for outs than any other player I have observed.
Just hitting into a lot of bad luck this year it seems. Too good of a hitter to keep down for long though.
Pirates finally found a team that hits worse than they do.
The Curve just walked off, literally, Richmond with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 9th. Final score, 1-0.
Boy, Baez has fallen on hard times. That contract still has 3 years to go.
Makes me so happy.. Screw that guy
If you played for that Cub team, I can’t stand you, no matter where you go!
I’ve watched about 6-7 HR that Peguero has hit this year, all on hangers, Marte was hang’em-bang’em guy too.
First time I saw Peguero in Altoona his swing and build reminded of Marte. They both have a full shoulder connected torso swing that is unique in this era. Generates power and has a sweet look.
Peguero enfuego
Endy is coming to life!
Capra, Delay and KeBryan(?) join the 26?
What about Falter?
In the meantime Andujar has 3 hits thru 6 innings tonight in Indy so far.
Just got his 4th hit along with his 4th and 5th rbis of the day.
Looks to be true, eh?
wouldn’t rivas join the team instead of capra?
A bit of a slap on the face to Andujar, team needs 1st baseman, has about twenty middle infielders and they bring up another…..
pretty clear they don’t view andujar as a 1b
Perhaps it’s temporary. They’ve given rewards of short term big league assignments to AAA vets in the past, eh?
Capra is only 27, not Drew Maggi. And Capra is killing it in Indy. But yeah, it’s weird regardless as there is not a single actual 1b on the current 26-man roster. Can’t imagine BC runs with that roster for very long. Don’t know where Capra gets PAs if they’re looking at Peguero & Williams, and Nick also getting a long look. My guess is Triolo goes back down soon as his .616 OPS isn’t playable with Hayes back up. Capra can back up 3b.
