Raise it!!!!

angie

Just woke up —
Good: Quality start from VV and homeruns from Suwinski!
Bad: Seemingly terrible running from Bae and some.
Does this summarize the game well so far??

phieralph

That was insane…

Bednar’s body almost looks designed to take a fastball off of it… If that makes sense.

b mcferren

muscle man!

AdministrativeSky236

Renegade time

robertkasperski

Thought Reynolds was not gonna come up with that last one……(sigh of relief…….)

phieralph

Robert “Houdini” Stephenson

bucsws2014

All sliders after the leadoff double. Nothing over 86.

phieralph

Thought it was gonna bite him

GreenWeenie

Well that half inning was an adventure.

GreenWeenie

Anybody get a screenshot of the Adam & Eve QR code?

b mcferren

would be nice to leave Colorado with Hand on our roster

GreenWeenie

Underwood…..my butthole is puckered up tight.

GreenWeenie

Exhale, release….

AdministrativeSky236

Tough night on the bases, I love that we are aggressive this year so we will have that some nights

TNBucs

I love the aggressiveness too, but it’s debatable whether you should be attempting steals in a park known for giving up extra-base hits. We’ve been burned twice now.

angie

While I agree, yesterday’s 2nd inning was also super aggressive but turned out to be pure perfect (& the Rockies defense looked very bad) so the Pirates tried it again. This time I think the Rockies might have prepared better. I didn’t watch the game live though – just guessing from text.

TNBucs

Yeah, and as Marcano was stretching what I thought should have been a double into a trip-trip-triple, I was thinking that was a bad baseball play (and it was very close). But then of course he scored a big run on the wild pitch so what do I know :)?

AdministrativeSky236

Even him scoring on the wild pitch was very very close to being a silly out. Staying right on the successful edge of that line is really fun to watch!

angie

We can only hope they know when to be risky and when not to be risky 🙂 So far I’m pleasantly surprised by the baserunning minus sending Cruz that caused the injury.

Wilbur Miller

TOOTBLANed away several runs already.

Catch_22

And the Oscar goes to Vince Velasquez tonight. 8 consecutive for the battling buccos!

adicesa14

Bae is learning this isn’t ‘sandlot.’ Reckless abandon is exciting when it works but when it doesn’t, it can be ugly. Caught stealing, picked off and two really bad plays in the field have miraculously not hurt the team (?) . He can be an exciting player. Hope he learns.

ArkyWags

Well, he’s a rookie. So he probably will.

jon6er

Wow, who are these guys, lol.

Catch_22

I don’t know, but I’m certainly enjoying it. Here’s to hoping they continue to keep it going.

jon6er

That was a great comeback by after his rough first inning.

Catch_22

Yessir

AdministrativeSky236

QS alert!

GreenWeenie

Bae, not impressing me tonight.

GreenWeenie

And that was before the error.

AdministrativeSky236

Wonder if the error was a bit of mental lapse after his poor baserunning

GreenWeenie

Maybe, he’s definitely a high motor guy, almost seems impulsive at times. Imo, he needs to slow down and let the game come to him.

Iowasteel

Vince seems to have had it. Don’t wait to long to pull him.

Wilbur Miller

Well, he got through five at least. And it IS Coors, even if the Rox suck.

GreenWeenie

That’s twice in a row he’s walked Sasquatch. C’mon Vince!

robertkasperski

C’mon Jack!! Wack #4 against the Lefty!!

Wilbur Miller

Rox want no more of him.

Tomkatf14

Lots of people wanted to send Suwinski to AA as of about 7 days ago. He now is on pace to put up 2 WAR offensively and be a plus defender while not getting true starter ABs. He’s also now according to Jerry DiPalo the 2nd fastest to reach 23 HR in Pirates history and has done so in 117 games. He’s also rapidly rising to the top of the team OPS. Please nobody ever say Swaggerty or Mitchell or CSN needs MLB at bags over this guy again

tom2125

When Jack makes contact, he can hit the ball hard. The problem is, that doesn’t happen enough.

I haven’t seen too many people hype up CSN or Mitchell. I still wouldn’t mind seeing T Swag in a month or so if he continues to hit. He is the best defensive outfielder the Pirates have. He just has questions with the bat, just like Jack.

Wilbur Miller

Vince seems to have recovered from that first inning. All their starters seem to hang in there. Maybe we should refer to a quality start as an “Oscar.”

adicesa14

Yes, but Vince is driving me crazy. Please, throw strikes. Command, command, command!!!

Wilbur Miller

Quick MiL update: Chen, Nicolas and Ortiz all pitch well. Terrero with four more hits. Eli Villalobos making his Pirate debut and, so far, it’s not good.

Iowasteel

That is quite a tear for Terrero. Can’t remember seeing anything like it.

mpg43952

Can we call him Denny? Great on dance fever in the ’80’s!

Wilbur Miller

I was puzzled when he started so badly, thought I’d been seeing things last year. Maybe not.

AdministrativeSky236

Going to pick some nits here but would like a few more k from a guy with ortiz’s stuff, but that lineup hes facing is strong so holding them down is a feat on its own

Wilbur Miller

The Rox are really reminding me of the 2020-22 Pirates. They get Bae stealing, which looks like a break when Tucu triples and Hedges is up. So they wild pitch the run in. Ouch.

AdministrativeSky236

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

bucsws2014

I’m trying to picture Rik Ocasek singing that.

GreenWeenie

DANG!!!!

PirateRican21

Happy for Marcano, felt that he was having bad luck there for a while.

GreenWeenie

agree. Love the energy he brings to the game.

robertkasperski

Jack 3 HRs in last 3 ABs and 2 were against a real pitcher! Wooooo Hoooooo!!!!

Catch_22

All 3 away from pnc

PirateRican21

Cool, that’s cool, but can he do it 4 times in a row?

robertkasperski

🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏

dukers

Jack Swack, Swack, Swack!

pikebishop65

Ok. (To be honest the years from 2019-2021 are a bit of blur for me, from the total collapse to Covid and the tear down and rebuild) can anyone explain to me why we gave up so soon on Elias Diaz? He was considered to be the heir apparent to Cervelli, got a couple of cups of coffee in the Majors, and then was just gone! Poof? What happened to him, Considering some of the total wastes of oxygen that have taken their place for this team behind the dish in the last few years, what happened to him?

pikebishop65

Thanks for the responses.

patrick_kelly

Well, he was shit. So there’s that.

robertkasperski

When Diaz finally got a chance to play more he fizzled. Hitting went down and errors up. Had framing issues, if I remember i remember right he had issues throwing out base runners too.

Iowasteel

It would be difficult to overstate just how bad he was in 2019. He had no patience and no power. I think his ISO that year was the worst in all of MLB. He has rebounded a bit, but I guess there is bit of a Coors effect there.

Wilbur Miller

His defense kinda tanked, for some reason. They always liked it as a prospect, but my recollection was he mysteriously got really bad before they ditched him.

mpg43952

Maybe he wanted out of town!

AdministrativeSky236

Jack is back? Let him burn hot like the sun!

Wilbur Miller

Oh, he’s gonna hate to leave Coors.

TNBucs

Statement series–last year Ben sent him down just before they visited Colorado.

AdministrativeSky236

Convince them he would be an mvp there and take back zac veen?

Wilbur Miller

What if he DOES become an MVP there? He already has a home park fetish.

AdministrativeSky236

Zac veen and gabe hughes then!

Iowasteel

Back to back for Jack.

AdministrativeSky236

There we go boys!

Iowasteel

Umpire seems to have a wide strike zone tonight.

GreenWeenie

Reynolds shaved his pornstache. That worries me.

GreenWeenie

Struck out. Yup, I’m officially worried.

AdministrativeSky236

prospect thread tonight or nah?

Wilbur Miller

I think the idea is to have one discussion thread for everything.

AdministrativeSky236

Cool cool im here for it!

GreenWeenie

Connor Joe has good hair.

dukers

Jack Swack…back to back (games thatid)

dukers

Noting the brightness and size of the ad size behind home plate. Almost hard to pick out batter, plus the camera is back so far to fit on all the ads it shrinks the actual batter etc.

Wilbur Miller

Off a pitcher this time!

Wilbur Miller

Oh, well. There’s a reason Velasquez’ ERA as a starter over the last three years is 5.87.

AdministrativeSky236

Maybe he moves to the pen as the long man over dejong at some point?

PirateRican21

That would be ideal.

I think I am ready to see Andujar on the team over Canaan

b mcferren

lets go bucs!

Iowasteel

VV vs. Urena (ERA: 10, FIP: 11). Someone has to get to double digits tonight.

PirateRican21

So pitchers duel, got it!

PirateRican21

That aged poorly, not even an inning!
