Pirates DVR: Oneil Cruz RBI, Connor Joe Three Hits, Angel Perdomo Strikeouts

Welcome to the Pirates Prospects daily video rundown, where we pull some of the top videos of the Pittsburgh Pirates across the internet.

Oneil Cruz

Cruz has had a good start to the spring, picking up nine hits, four of which have gone for extra bases. He’s also done fairly well making contact, only striking out five times in 31 plate appearances.

He picked up a RBI single against the Baltimore Orioles the other day.

Connor Joe

Joe has played well, especially as of late. He’s picked up four doubles, two of which came on Wednesday. He’s also picked up three stolen bases, all within the last week.

He went 3-for-3 the other day against the Blue Jays.

Angel Perdomo

Unfortunately it looks like Jarlin Garcia is going to be out for a while, so the Pirates may need to look at another option if they want to go with two lefties out of the bullpen.

One option would be Angel Perdomo. He’s had his ups and downs this spring, giving up some big hits, but he has also shown the ability to miss bats.

Anthony began writing over 10 years ago, starting a personal blog to cover the 2011 MLB draft, where the Pirates selected first overall. After bouncing around many websites covering hockey, he refocused his attention to baseball, his first love when it comes to sports. He eventually found himself here at Pirates Prospects in late 2021, where he covers the team’s four full season minor league affiliates.

If those are CU at 89mph they are gonna get smoked during the regular season. Just stop throwing it if it has that little of separation.

Throw that 80-84mph breaker and the 92-94mph FB and call it day. They aren’t asking too much from a LH RP. Get 3 outs and go sit down.

And probably 2 of them are LH hitters that are so routinely fooled by LHP that they have no confidence and probably just go up there looking for a walk.

That delivery gets pretty out of sync too. Not too repeatable. He’s falling off balance and sh*t.

I originally thought Perdomo had some intrigue too but the more I watch him I just don’t know how u can trust him. I would go with Alldred. And I recently saw some intriguing metrics on Zamora. He might be the play too.

Was really interested in watching Rays’ 1b prospect Manzardo play, not a good game for him so far…..

b mcferren

we need a veteren left handed dominican reliever to teach Perdomo and Hernandez a few things

I couldnt think of a better investment we could make right now

Pretty sure Connor Joe’s mullet is worth 1 WAR on its own. What Pitcher can concentrate on the Catcher’s mitt when he’s got that thing of masculine awesomeness waving hi to him in the batters box?

buccobrach2

#free tswags!! Send him north and start him in CF 6 days a week. Rotate Cutch, Swin, and Joe in RF MATCHUP DEPENDENT, winning formula for Shelton, but he’ll screw that up like he does everything!! #go out and MAKE VAN SLYKE a manager position he can’t refuse.

skliesen

Upvote for the free TSwag portion of the comment. Not sure AVS would be as good of a Manager as he was a player.

Y2JGQ2

well he’s been a position coach and 3rd base coach for most of the past 20 years….

skliesen

And yet I’ve never heard his name mentioned in any of the dozens of MLB Manager openings which have occurred in the last 20 years.

It couldn’t be a worse decision than hiring Shelton who had been passed over for manager positions and has clearly demonstrated he wasn’t ready. Shelton is the product of the good ‘ole boys network–you hang around long enough and with the right people, you’ll get your chance. But AVS would be a similar hire and I don’t want us to make that mistake again.

That said, even stubborn Shelton should be able to learn from the last three years and the players seem to sincerely like him, so I’m hopeful we’ll see progress this year now that he is finally saying that their job is to win.

RaisetheJollyRancherGirl

Andy, is that you?

TNBucs

Instead of Van Slyke, an inspired hire to replace Shelton would be Molina.

Wilbur Miller

You had me at “replace Shelton.”

NMR

Nutting should obviously poach Mike Sullivan from the Pens since Travis Williams has been such a striking success.

Colin

Lmao, atleast Sully wouldn’t be a pushover like Shelty seems to be

PirateRican21

I like bmac suggestion of hiring Kendall.

RaisetheJollyRancherGirl

What I’d really like is Kendall as manager and Van Slyke as Bench coach

Y2JGQ2

to do what exactly……be a horrible catcher, or to have the weakest contact consistently for entire seasons….

skliesen

I’m already digging the thought of posting the hashtag #PiratesDevilMagic if he becomes our Manager. Especially if he brings Albert to be his hitting coach and Waino to be his pitching coach.

Cardinals would probably file a grievance with MLB if that happened!
