P2Daily: Jase Bowen Continued To Add To Jack-Of-All-Trade Skillset In 2022

Published:

One of the best ways to find your way on to a major league roster is to be as versatile as possible. Whether it be playing multiple positions, or contributing offensively in different ways, the more you know how to do the further you are going to make it.

In the Pirates system there are few that can do as much as Jase Bowen can do. Over the last two years the former 11th round pick in 2019 has played every position except pitcher, catcher, and shortstop.

He’s also a dual threat offensively, able to steal a base just as easily as hit one out the park.

Bowen played in Bradenton for his first full professional season of baseball, slashing .220/.309/.384 with 14 home runs and 16 stolen bases, playing a big part in the Marauders division championship.

He returned to Bradenton to start the year in 2022 and put his experience to good use, as Bowen was one of the best hitters in the Florida State League at the time of being promoted to Greensboro.

Even though he played the last month at another level, Bowen was among the FSL league leaders in several offensive categories, including home runs (T5th), hits, (T7th), RBI (1st), OPS (3rd), and stolen bases (8th).

Bowen finally got a shot in Greensboro to end the season, struggling overall (.174/.211/.324). He did hit three home runs and stole five bases in 27 games played.

Ultimately it was a small sample size, so giving data from an even smaller portion may not do much, but Bowen did improve in his brief time in Greensboro. He posted a -1 wRC+ in his first 16 games in High-A, before actually being slightly above average (101) in his final 14.

When you’re looking at players deep in the system to watch, Bowen will always be an intriguing one due to his ability to play all over the field and his loud tools at the plate. He might be a player that takes a little longer, especially if he continues to play multiple positions, but a versatile power bat off the bench would certainly be worth the wait.
