The Pittsburgh Pirates activated relief pitcher David Bednar from the 15-day Injured List prior to Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. They placed pitcher Eric Stout on the 15-day Injured List to make room on the active roster.

Bednar has been out since August 3rd with a back injury. He made three scoreless rehab appearances with Indianapolis over the last week, throwing one inning each time. Prior to the injury, he had 2.70 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, 63 strikeouts and 17 saves in 46.2 innings with the Pirates.

Stout pitched last night, giving up four runs in one inning. He has a 5.64 ERA in 22.1 innings this season. His injury is described as lower back discomfort and he will not return this season, which has just 14 days left.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
