Prospect Watch: Strong Starting Pitching All Around, As Rain Suspends Two Games

After a rare off-day for everyone yesterday, we slowly get back into action with the FCL Pirates and both DSL Pirates teams in action today. The full-season teams return tomorrow. I’ll update the boxscore links and pitchers once they become available.

Game Recap:

Starter Alessandro Ercolani continued his strong season by striking out four batters over three shutout innings. That lowered the 18-year-old to a 1.69 ERA in 21.1 innings, with 26 strikeouts. Enmanuel De Los Santos followed with three no-hit innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. Drew Irvine gave up one run in two innings, then Kevin Disla allowed two runs in the ninth, but the Pirates held on for a 6-3 win. Pirates scored two in the third inning on a single by Luis Hernandez and a double by Jauri Custodio. Jesus Castillo added an RBI single in the fifth. Shalin Polanco and Rafael Escalante had back-to-back RBI singles in the eighth, then Braylon Bishop capped the scoring with an RBI ground out. Castillo has a .416 average that is 37 points higher than the second best mark in the league among qualified hitters.

Starter Jonathan Salazar tossed three perfect innings before this game was suspended due to rain. The Pirates had two walks, but no hits in their turns at the plate.

Game Recap:

This game was suspended due to rain in the fourth inning with the Pirates winning 2-1. Starter Keneth Quintanilla was still on the mound at the time, finishing his day with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings. The Pirates scored on a wild pitch and an RBI double from Eddy Rodriguez. The game went to a delay right after a play that included a wild pitch and a throwing error that resulted in a run for the opposition.
