Pirates DVR: Cal Mitchell Clears Bases, Kevin Newman Walk-Off, Travis Swaggerty Triple

Welcome to the Pirates Prospects daily video rundown, where we pull some of the top videos of the Pittsburgh Pirates across the internet.

With the Altoona game postponed, Bradenton in Lakeland, and Greensboro not streaming as always, Indianapolis was the only team available to watch on Monday.

Daily Video Rundown

Cal Mitchell

It’s not often that someone is able to clear the bases on a single, but Cal Mitchell was able to accomplish that on Monday for Indianapolis. A throwing error cleared the path for the final runner to score but an impressive feat nonetheless.

Kevin Newman

The former first round pick hasn’t been a prospect in quite some time but made an impact on his rehab assignment. Newman won the game for the home team in the bottom of the tenth.

Travis Swaggerty

Swaggerty picked up his fourth triple of the season of the season on Monday. He’s continued his strong season and now has 16 extra-base hits on the year. He’s currently slashing .270/.344/.434 with the Indians, and has driven in 33 RBI.

Anyone else notice how commonplace it is for players to either exercise poor judgment or fail to hustle?

Just in this article, we saw an OF fail to throw to cutoff man and make an ill advised throw to 3rd base resulting in an error and run scored. And TSwag prematurely going into a HR trot possibly costing him an inside the park HR.

These type plays seem to happen in every game. One would think Pirates could be exploiting a market inefficiency by teaching their players how to play hard & smart and holding them accountable.

Looking forward to seeing Swaggy-T getting some MLB time later this season.
