Some of you may remember Day One.
Over at Pittsburgh Baseball Network, I wrote “First Pitch: Day One” in anticipation of the start of a long lockout.
This site is my livelihood. Right now, it’s at the end of my own “Build”, which began in 2019. A lot of that process was spent planning, and then reacting to every world and life event to follow.
There’s always a fear I have that this will all go away. Maybe Bob Nutting will piss off Pirates fans enough to turn enough off to the team that I won’t have a big enough customer base to run this site. Maybe Major League Baseball does the job. Or, perhaps a non-baseball event factors in, such as me getting sick, getting in an accident, or getting to an age where I can’t run this site anymore.
This site’s “Build” started in 2019, and my life is completely different on the other side of things. This might be common for a lot of people during the pandemic, but I feel like I’ve grown ten years with each passing year since 2019.
Day One was partially a count-up to track the lockout. No Quarter readers know that I stopped on February 12th, Day Seventy Three. The lockout ended exactly one month later.
Day One was more significant in that it was Day One of the implementation of this plan.
A month after that article, we started the article drop format on Pirates Prospects. When I wrote “Day One”, the weekly drops were an idea I had for 2023. With no baseball, I decided to test it out during the lockout, and the format worked well.
Most importantly, Day One was the start of my new routine.
And here we are, on Day Two Hundred Sixteen, and that routine still isn’t set.
Though, that changes this week.

My focus for the first half of this year has been getting the weekly routine down, and establishing daily coverage. On the latter, we don’t really have a set publishing time.
Going forward, all daily articles — P2Daily, Pirates DVR, Prospect Watch, and Pirates Discussion — will all post at 8 AM EST.
We typically have one or two additional daily features. Those will drop at 10 AM and noon.
The article drops — which now run on Tuesday and Friday — also didn’t have a set publishing time. My loose goal was 3 AM each Tuesday morning. The emergency time was 9 AM the next day. Last week I pushed things back to Thursday, due to my MLB coverage breaking up my normal routine.
The new publishing times for the article drops will be noon EST on Tuesdays, and 10 AM EST on Fridays.
That means all of our features will be published between 8 AM and noon EST, every day. This ends a long history on this site of posting features at midnight, or in the early hours of the morning.
We will still post news and updates outside of those publishing times, when those events occur.
For the remainder of the season, I’ll be working on establishing my own routine with this publishing schedule. I will probably have an interesting take on home run only hitters in the next week, relating to my own process.
As for the site, I’ll be working on building up the rest of the daily coverage in the next two months. Of course, the MLB draft is next week, and the trade deadline is less than a month away, so there will be no shortage of things to discuss.
Check back today at 10 AM for our Player of the Week, and then noon for the article drop.
