Minor Moves: Henry Davis Placed on Injured List

Published:

Altoona placed catcher Henry Davis on the 7-day injured list on Friday with a left wrist injury. The 2021 first overall draft pick was just named to the Futures Game yesterday. While this doesn’t necessarily eliminate him from playing in that game, it is not a good sign. He already missed time this year with a left wrist injury and hasn’t played since July 2nd. He is hitting .177/.320/.355 in 17 games with Altoona, after putting up big numbers with Greensboro earlier in the year.

In other moves around the system, Bradenton made some changes, with Juan Jerez returning to the team after a brief rehab stint in the FCL. Angel Basabe also returned from a short trip to the injured list. To make room on the roster, catcher Darwin Baez and relief pitcher Kevin Disla have been returned to the FCL Pirates.

Jerez has high upside, but he has struggled with strikeouts this year when healthy (this was his second injury). He’s hitting .185/.256/.252 in 34 games with Bradenton. Basabe was hitting .200//.294/.244 in 14 games before missing the last week.

If anything else pops up for transactions in the minors, we will update them here.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
