Minor Moves: Gorski to 60-Day IL; Greg Allen Begins Rehab Work

Published:

Some minor moves around the Pittsburgh Pirates system from Wednesday

Matt Gorski was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. He originally went on the 7-day IL with a quad injury on June 30th and it was said that he could miss several months. This move guarantees that he can’t return before August 29th, and the Altoona season runs until September 18th, so it seems unlikely that he returns this season. It will be interesting to see if he could return in time for the Arizona Fall League. He has a .294/.376/.664 slash line in 67 games this year split between Greensboro and Altoona, with 23 homers and 17 steals.

Will Kobos was also placed on the 60-day IL, which is rough news for him because he barely played this year, getting in just 14.1 innings, with 15 walks and 18 strikeouts.

Kyle Nicolas was on the temporary inactive list, but he returns to action without missing any actual time on the mound.

Greg Allen will play his first game of 2022 tonight with Bradenton. He has been out all season with multiple hamstring injuries, after it looked like he was certain to make the Opening Day roster for the Pirates.

If any other moves come up today, we will add them here.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
