Notable Performances:
- Braylon Bishop 0-3, BB
- Javier Rivas 1-3, BB
- Rafael Escalante 2-3, 2B
Game Recap:
The Pirates (8-6) scored two in the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh for a (seven-inning) walkoff over the Orioles, 4-3. Pirate pitchers allowed only two hits, both singles, but walks produced the runs. Bladimir Dotel worked three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and fanning four. After a scoreless inning by Enmanuel De Los Santos, Owen Sharts took the mound. He struck out the first batter he faced, then walked the next four. Miguel Diaz came on to allow two more runs on a fielder’s choice and another bases-loaded walk. Luigi Hernandez threw an inning and two-thirds, and Carlos Campos got the last out in the seventh. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth, the Pirates got two runs on a single by Rafael Escalante and a ground ball. In the ninth, the Pirates got two on with two out, and the Orioles went with a new pitcher. He threw three wild pitches, allowing both runners to score. (There’s a reason the Orioles are 2-12.) For the day, Rafael Escalente had the only extra base hit, a double, along with a single. Javier Rivas and Solomon Maguire each had a single, and Rivas made a spectacular diving catch of a liner with the bases loaded. Jesus Castillo went 1-for-3 and left the game after hitting the first base bag awkwardly while trying to run out a swinging bunt.
