Pirates DVR: Travis Swaggerty, Canaan Smith-Njigba, Dylan Shockley

Welcome to the Pirates Prospects daily video rundown, where we pull some of the top videos of the Pittsburgh Pirates across the internet.

Daily Video Rundown

Travis Swaggerty

After a rough April, Swaggerty was one of the better players in the system for the month of May. He took a quick step to keep up the pace on the first day of June. This two-run shot was his third of the season. He’d later draw a bases loaded walk that drove in another run.

Canaan Smith-Njigba

While he technically had his on-base streak ended when he came in as a pinch hitter, he’s carried it on in games he’s started into the month of June, part of which was due to this double that scored two runs.

Dylan Shockley

With the injury to Henry Davis, Dylan Shockley has pushed into the Altoona lineup more often as the primary backup to Blake Sabol. While he’ll never be known for his offense (.107/.242/.143), Shockley does hold his own behind the plate. Wednesday he picked off a runner that was leaning a little too far off the base.

He also showed how rough it was behind the plate at times, taking some foul tips straight to the mask a couple of times.

Jared Triolo

Triolo hasn’t been horrible at the plate this season (.273 average, .353 on-base-percentage) but has hit for little to no power (.313 slugging-percentage).  If there is one thing that hasn’t changed is his defense, as Triolo made a couple of slick plays, one he didn’t even need the glove.

Triolo won the minor league gold glove at third base last year, and it looks like he’s doing everything he can to repeat.
