Altoona Defensive Work

With the Altoona offense struggling Thursday night, the defense needed to step up and keep the game close. They stepped up to make a couple of big plays with the leather, both in the infield and outfield.

Andres Alvarez has been a surprise with the bat this season, among the leaders in home runs in the entire system. An infielder by trade, they’ve also gotten him some work in the outfield to keep his bat in the lineup. Here he shows off his glove at third to throw out the base runner.

Earlier in the game, Connor Scott made a diving stop with the bases loaded to end the inning. After a blazing start, Scott’s bat has cooled off a bit, but that hasn’t hurt his play in the field.

Matt Fraizer

It’s been a rough season for Fraizer, he began the year in the lead off spot, but was dropped towards the bottom of the lineup due to his struggles. They’ve started to work him back into the top of the order, and it paid off here with a leadoff home run.
