Kyle Nicolas and Jared Jones both had good outings, albeit with a lot of pitches involved. Henry Davis and Maikol Escotto went deep, and Tsung-Che Cheng got a walkoff. Meanwhile, Indianapolis is starting to look like a juggernaut.

Indianapolis (5-2) picked up a 5-1 win over St. Paul in a game shortened to five innings by rain. The weather gave Beau Sulser a complete game. After a rough first start, Sulser in this one allowed just an unearned run while striking out seven over the five innings. Oneil Cruz and Rodolfo Castro each went 2-for-3, with Cruz picking up a double and a triple. Mason Martin added his own triple. Cal Mitchell and Ji-Hwan Bae each had an RBI. The Indy lineup featured five hitters with OPS figures over .900.

Altoona (2-2) hung on to beat Richmond, 3-2. Colin Selby got the save by pitching out of a first-and-third, one-out situation in the ninth. A 4-6-3 double play did the trick. Kyle Nicolas made his first Pirate appearance with three and two-thirds shutout innings. He fanned five but also walked three. Noe Toribio and Austin Roberts each allowed a run, and Tahnaj Thomas threw a scoreless inning. The offense all came in the fourth, on an RBI double by Carter Bins and a two-run single by Connor Scott. Matt Fraizer had two of the Curve’s six hits.

Greensboro (1-3) couldn’t hold an early 3-0 lead and lost to Winston-Salem, 4-3. Jared Jones wasn’t overly efficient, but showed the level of stuff he has by fanning seven in three and a third innings. He walked two and needed 69 pitches to get that far while allowing one run. Wandi Montout gave up a run in two and two-thirds innings, and Jack Carey allowed two in the seventh to get hung with a blown save and a loss. Two of the Hoppers’ runs came on longballs, Henry Davis’ first of the year and Maikol Escotto’s second. Greensboro continued to rack up the whiffs, fanning 16 times to leave them with 56 through four games. Davis was the only batter who didn’t strike out, with Abrahan Gutierrez, Sammy Siani and Escotto each fanning three times.

Bradenton (3-1) beat Lakeland, 4-3, on a walk-off single by Tsung-Che Cheng with two outs in the ninth. Max Kranick threw two innings in a rehab start, fanning three and allowing just one runner, although it was on a home run. Carlos Jimenez, who’ll probably get the rotation slot Kranick occupied today, followed with six strikeouts over three innings. He gave up four hits and a run. Cristian Charle threw two scoreless innings and Yunior Thibo gave up a run in two innings, but picked up the win. Marauders pitchers fanned 14 on the day. Brenden Dixon brought in half the runs with his first home run of the year. Alexander Mojica drove in the remaining run. Everybody in the starting lineup had one hit except Jacob Gonzalez, who had three.
