Anthony Banda Placed on Injured List; Sam Howard Rejoins Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda has been place on the 10-day injured list due to illness. Left-handed pitcher Sam Howard has been recalled from Indianapolis to take his spot on the 28-man roster.

Banda has allowed one run over 4.1 innings in five appearances this season. This move was made retroactive to April 23rd, so he can return next Tuesday. Howard was recently optioned to the minors after completing a rehab assignment for a Spring Training back injury. He pitched once for Bradenton and twice for Indianapolis, allowing one run in 3.1 innings over his three outings. Howard had a 5.60 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 54 games last season for the Pirates, with 60 strikeouts in 45 innings.
