Winter Leagues: Rodolfo Castro Picks Up His First Two Hits

Published:

Here’s a quick update on winter league action for Pittsburgh Pirates. The league in Puerto Rico begins tonight, which should add to the action here this winter. At least two Pirates, Bligh Madris and Ethan Paul, were already announced for the league, and more should follow.

In the Dominican on Friday night, Rodolfo Castro played third base and collected two hits, including a double. Those were his first two hits of the winter, but he was doing a good job of getting on base in his first four games, walking six times. He’s 2-for-13 with an RBI and a .400 OBP.

Enmanuel Mejia made his winter debut, and the man who allowed runs in just one game all season, allowed a run in his first winter inning. He gave up one run on two hits and a walk in one frame on Friday.

Christian Bethancourt went 0-for-3. He’s hitting .167/.167/.292 in seven games.

In Mexico, Randy Romero went 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.He’s hitting .295/.375/.333 in 27 games.

We should have another article tomorrow, at least updating the Opening Day rosters in Puerto Rico, along with any action that went on tonight.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
