Prospect Watch: Results from a Slow Monday for the DSL/FCL Pirates

Only the short-season teams were in action on Monday and the FCL Pirates Black game at Pirate City was canceled, while one DSL game was suspended early due to rain.

Game Recap: Sebastian Rodriguez made his first start in the U.S. after opening up the season in the DSL. He allowed one unearned run in four innings on four hits, no walks and one strikeout. In the DSL this year, he tossed ten innings without an earned run. He has just five strikeouts in 14 innings. Joelvis Del Rosario threw shutout ball in the fifth and Arlinthon De Dios took over in the sixth and gave up a run, then threw shutout ball in the seventh. He remained on four the eighth and things got out of hand, with five runs scoring against him. Johan Montero came on for the final out, but the Pirates lost 7-4.

The Pirates scored their first run in the fourth inning on a Gustavo Polanco single. They took a 2-1 lead on an RBI ground out by Jasiah Dixon. In the seventh, Rodolfo Nolasco drove in a run with his third double of the season. A second run scored on an error by the center fielder. Polanco had three singles in the game. Randy Romero and Tsung-Che Cheng each had two hits. Nolasco, Claudio Finol and Norkis Marcos each had a hit and a walk.

Game Recap: Antwone Kelly was having a strong start until the game went into a rain delay, which ended his day after 2.1 shutout innings. His pro career started with five runs in the first inning, before being removed with two outs on Opening Day. Since then he has allowed two runs over 11.1 innings. Jesus Clode took over when play resumed and allowed two runs in 2.2 frames. Darlin Diaz took the final two innings in the 3-2 win and tossed his two shutout innings on a hit and three walks.

The Pirates got the first run of the game on a Shalin Polanco triple in the third inning, which was followed by a passed ball that allowed him to score. After the Red Sox took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, Enmanuel Terrero tripled home Jesus Castillo to tie the score. A wild pitch brought home Terrero with the go-ahead run. The Pirates had six hits in the game, two doubles, two triples and two singles.  The triples by Polanco and Terrero were the first of their careers. Ewry Espinal hit his fifth double and Fabian Urbina hit his third double.

Game Recap: This game was suspended at the start of the bottom of the second inning due to rain. Roelmy Garcia allowed two runs in the first on two hits and a walk. Gustavo Armas was the only batter to reach base (walk) in two innings, though he was throwing out trying to steal. The two clubs will complete this game during the next time they meet.
