OOTP: Mitch Keller Looks to Build on Recent Success in Tonight’s Start

The following is part of our simulation of the 2020 Pittsburgh Pirates season, using Out of the Park Baseball (OOTP). We simulate the season each day, as it was originally scheduled, and with no input from any of us, all to give you a Pirates team to follow this year. You can follow the simulation by inning and make it seem like a game, or you can skip to the end and find out what happens.

Mitch Keller takes the mound for the Pirates tonight against the Marlins. Keller got off to a rough start this season, giving up 11 runs in 16 innings over his first three starts. Since then, he has allowed six runs in 19.2 innings over his previous three outings.

Lineups

1st Inning

Dyson grounds out to third to start the game. Frazier flies out to right. Bell draws a walk. Polanco lines out to third.

Villar starts the game for the Marlins with a single to center. Berti grounds into a 1-6 fielder’s choice, but Riddle is upended on the play, preventing a throw to first. Brian Anderson hits a double to the left field corner, and moves to third on the throw to the plate, with Villar scoring on the play. Corey Dickerson singles to left to score Villar. Keller gets another 1-6 fielder’s choice. Rojas grounds out to second.

Marlins 2, Pirates 0

2nd Inning

Hayes leads off the inning with a walk. Heredia follows with a four pitch walk. Riddle reaches on a throwing error to second base, loading the bass. Maile strikes out. Keller flies out to center, bringing in Hayes from third. Dyson walks to load the bases. Frazier singles to left, bringing in two runs. Bell grounds out to second.

Keller had an easier second inning, with a pop out, fly out, and strikeout.

Pirates 3, Marlins 2

3rd Inning

Polanco leads off the third with a single to left-center. Hayes flew out to right field. Heredia grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.

Villar leads off with a walk. Berti flies out to right. Villar steals second base as Brian Anderson strikes out swinging. Dickerson grounds out to first.

Pirates 3, Marlins 2

4th Inning

Riddle grounds out to second. Maile singles up the middle. Keller bunts him over to second. Dyson singles to left, and Maile scores. Frazier lines out to right.

Keller struck out the side in order in the fourth inning.

Pirates 4, Marlins 2

5th Inning

Bell grounds out to second. Polanco lines out to second. Hayes doubles on a line drive to the left-center gap. Heredia grounds out.

Bourjos flies out to right. Jesus Aguilar enters as a pinch hitter and reaches on an infield single. Keller strikes out Villar. Berti draws a walk. A passed ball moves the runners into scoring position. Keller strikes out Brian Anderson.

Pirates 4, Marlins 2

6th Inning

Yimi Garcia comes on to pitch for the Marlins. Riddle grounds out. Maile flies out to center. Keller strikes out.

Dickerson pops out in the infield. Cooper singles to right. Kyle Crick comes in to replace Keller. He gets a fly out to center and a strikeout to end the inning.

Pirates 4, Marlins 2

7th Inning

Dyson strikes out. Frazier singles up the middle. Bell lines out to center. Polanco grounds out.

Crick returns and gets Bourjos to ground out to short. Matt Kemp enters as a pinch hitter and strikes out. Michael Feliz comes in and strikes out Villar.

Pirates 4, Marlins 2

8th Inning

Ryne Stanek comes in to pitch for the Marlins. Hayes strikes out and Heredia grounds out. Riddle draws a two-out walk. Maile singles to right, with Riddle moving to third. Colin Moran enters as a pinch hitter and flies out to right.

Keone Kela enters to pitch for the Pirates. Berti flies out to center. Brian Anderson singles up the middle. Kela strikes out Dickerson and Cooper.

Pirates 4, Marlins 2

9th Inning

Jarrod Dyson leads off the ninth with a line drive double to right. Left-hander Daniel Stumpf comes in to pitch. An error by Garrett Cooper puts Adam Frazier on second and scores Dyson. Bell grounds out to third. Polanco singles to right, scoring Frazier. Lefty Alex Vesia comes in to pitch and gets a 4-6-3 double play.

Nick Burdi enters for the Pirates. Miguel Rojas reaches on an infield single. Alfaro strikes out. Bourjos reaches on an infield single. A passed ball puts runners at second and third. Another passed ball scores Rojas from third. Burdi strikes out Diaz. Villar flies out to right to end the game.
