All of the winter leagues were off 2-3 days for New Year’s Day, so there was a lull in the reports. The Dominican league started back up on Thursday with Socrates Brito in action for Tigres del Licey. He went 1-for-5 with two runs scored in his team’s 10-4 win.
On Friday, Brito went 0-for-4. He is 9-for-33 with a double, homer and six RBIs in the first eight playoff games.
Richard Rodriguez continued to throw shutout ball this winter, now going a full month (regular season and playoffs) without a run. He retired the side in order on 13 pitches, picking up one strikeout.
In Australia, Robbie Glendinning went 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored in his team’s 9-3 win. He is hitting .347/.426/.589 through 25 games.
In Puerto Rico, the playoffs started and Chris Sharpe returned to action for the first time since before Christmas. He went 1-for-4 with two walks and two runs scored.
Sharpe scored the walk-off run in the 12th inning, but unfortunately for the Pirates, it came off of Yacksel Rios, who walked four batters in the inning for the loss. He recorded two outs in his only inning of work.
In Mexico, Randy Romero saw his first playoff action. He was used as a pinch-runner in the ninth, scored the go ahead run, then finished the game in right field in his team’s 4-3 win.
