AFL Recap: Jared Oliva Finishes Fall Season as League Leader in Two Categories

Published:

The Peoria Javelinas played their final game of the 2019 Arizona Fall League season, losing 6-1 on Friday afternoon to the Salt River Rafters. Peoria finished with a 14-15 record, losing one game on their schedule to a rain out. Two Pittsburgh Pirates saw action in the game.

Jared Oliva started in center field and batted third. He went 1-for-3 with a single and a strikeout. He picked up his 11th stolen base, which was the most in the AFL this season. He also led the league with 11 doubles.

Jason Delay finished the game behind the plate after replacing Logan Driscoll, who was injured on defense during the fifth inning. Delay picked up a hit in his lone at-bat, which was just his third hit of the fall and first since September 28th.

Here’s the boxscore.

We will have a season recap tomorrow morning.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
