MLB Pipeline posted their list of the 15 best farm systems in baseball. The Pittsburgh Pirates just squeezed onto their list, ranking 15th overall. That’s four spots higher than where Baseball America ranked them just over a week ago. The Pirates have three players on the updated top 100 prospects rankings from Pipeline, with Mitch Keller ranking 28th, Ke’Bryan Hayes 39th and Oneil Cruz rated 62nd. Along with some added depth from the 2019 draft, giving them a solid top ten list of prospects, that helped the Pirates rank right in the middle for Pipeline, according to their brief write-up in the link above.
Speaking of Oneil Cruz, he was just awarded the Florida State League Player of the Month for July. Cruz hit .326/.362/.596 in 23 games for the Bradenton Marauders in July. He was promoted to the Altoona Curve three days before the month ended. Cruz played just 35 games for Bradenton before his promotion, mostly due to missing time with two separate injuries. He has a .596 OPS in eight games with the Curve.
