The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Yefry Ramirez prior to Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-handed reliever Parker Markel was optioned to Indianapolis.
Ramirez has been pitching well lately, putting together back-to-back outings of six innings and two runs, while striking out 17 batters in those 12 innings. He has been with the Pirates briefly twice this season, though it resulted in just one game. In a mop up role, he allowed five runs (three earned) over 3.2 innings. Ramirez was scheduled to start tomorrow, but he’s on regular five-day rest today, so he is available for 90+ pitches if needed.
Markel was in his second brief stint with the Pirates and he pitched twice this time, allowing three runs over 1.2 innings. Between his time with the Pirates and previous MLB time with the Seattle Mariners this year, he has an 11.57 ERA and a 2.68 WHIP in 9.1 innings over nine appearances.
