Pirates Sign Two More Draft Picks

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that they have signed 23rd round pick Jasiah Dixon and 32nd round pick Jake Wright. Both players are outfielders. Wright will head to Bristol, while Dixon will go to the GCL Pirates. The Pirates have now signed 37 of their 42 draft picks.

In yesterday’s draft article, we noted that the Pirates had a total of $170,800 to spend on over-slot draft picks after the tenth round. I mentioned that Wright was signing, but it appears that the two players will get some sort of split with that remaining pool money, on top of the $125,000 slot amount for picks after the tenth round. They likely took most or all of that remaining bonus pool money, but we will see once the numbers are released. Dixon is a prep player with a commitment to USC, while Wright is a draft-eligible sophomore.

Here are their player pages:

and here’s the draft tracker up to date at this point, until we get the bonus totals.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
