Gregory Polanco Placed on Injured List; Pirates Recall Jason Martin

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed outfielder Gregory Polanco on the 10-day injured list due posterior left shoulder inflammation. To take his place on the 25-man roster, they have recalled outfielder Jason Martin. The move was made retroactive to June 19th.

Polanco is hitting .242/.301/.425 in 42 games this season. Over the last two weeks, he has played just seven games and has a .411 OPS. This is the same shoulder that he had operated on over the off-season.

Martin was up with the Pirates earlier in the season and hit .229/.289/.286 in 17 games. Since being sent down, he put up a .230/.268/.410 slash line with Indianapolis in 45 games. The 23-year-old lefty hitting Martin has been playing center field every day in Triple-A, with just one start in left field mixed in during that time.

This shouldn’t have too much affect on the lineup. With the Pirates having four regulars in the outfield already, Martin probably won’t see much time.
