Starling Marte, Erik Gonzalez and Jordan Lyles All Leave Friday Night’s Game Early

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates are having a rough Friday night despite being up on the scoreboard. They saw injuries to starting pitcher Jordan Lyles, center fielder Starling Marte and shortstop Erik Gonzalez.

Lyles left with a right hand contusion after a ball hit up the middle caught a piece of his pitching hand.

Marte and Gonzalez left early due to a collision in center field. Marte had to leave on the medical cart, though he was sitting up front  and giving a thumbs up to some players as the cart drove by.

Obviously it’s too early to know the extent of any injuries, but the Pirates are already down multiple players, with three Major Leagues currently rehabbing in Indianapolis tonight, and Corey Dickerson and Kevin Newman both close to returning to game action. Just as they are about to get some of those players back, they could be losing others. If there are any updates tonight, we will post them here.

UPDATE: If you need more to be concerned about, there’s this from the postgame about Adam Frazier
