Starling Marte Activated from Injured List; Jason Martin Optioned to Indianapolis

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated center fielder Starling Marte from the injured list on Tuesday, ahead of their two-game series in Texas against the Rangers. To make room on the 25-man roster, outfielder Jason Martin has been optioned to Indianapolis.

Marte has been out since a collision with shortstop Erik Gonzalez landed him on the injured list back on April 20th with an abdominal wall contusion. The Pirates struggled during that time, losing their last eight games. Marte was hitting .203/.247/.377 in 16 games at the time of the injury.

The 23-year-old Martin has been with the team since April 5th, before he could play a game for Indianapolis. He hit .229/.289/.286 in 35 at-bats over 17 games, in what was his first shot in the majors.
