Pirates Announce that Erik Gonzalez is Out 10-12 Weeks

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the shortstop Erik Gonzalez had surgery this morning for a fractured left clavicle. His approximate return time is 10-12 weeks, which would have him out until around the All-Star break.

Gonzalez was injured during a collision with Starling Marte last Friday night. Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list with an abdominal wall contusion. He has already resumed light baseball activities and the Pirates are hopeful that he misses the minimum amount of time.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
