The Pittsburgh Pirates (7-6) take on the Washington Nationals (7-6) in game three of their three-game series. They have split the first two games. Jameson Taillon will be on the mound to face right-hander Max Scherzer. Taillon is coming off of a two-inning outing against the Chicago Cubs, where he allowed six runs, though none of them were earned. He gave up one run over seven innings in his previous start. Scherzer is also making his fourth start. He has a 3.32 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 28 strikeouts in 19 innings this season.
The Pirates announced that Chris Archer will begin serving his five-game suspension today. The Pirates have off Monday and Thursday this upcoming week, so he will be able to return for his next start on Sunday (4/21) and not miss a start. The flip side is that players don’t get paid while suspended and MLB pay is based on days, not games, so he will lose two extra days in his pay on top of the fine he originally received.
