The Pittsburgh Pirates announced to the media on Wednesday afternoon that outfielder Gregory Polanco will undergo surgery today for an acute shoulder dislocation. He is in the process of that surgery now and they will provide more information when it’s available. They would not speculate on possible recovery time at this point.
Gregory Polanco was examined today by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York who confirmed an acute shoulder dislocation.
Left shoulder surgery has been recommended, and Gregory is now in the process of that surgery. We’ll provide details as available.

Polanco injured the shoulder on an awkward slide last week. He also injured his left knee on the same slide, suffering a significant bone bruise. That particular injury requires 6-8 weeks of rehab.
The local media received updates after today’s game in St Louis about other players currently injured. From Adam Berry of MLB.com:
Jung Ho Kang (wrist surgery) is hitting soft toss, fielding grounders and throwing without pain. Todd Tomczyk said the Pirates hope to get him at-bats in the fall instructional league.

AND
Chad Kuhl (forearm/elbow tightness) wasn’t able to throw his scheduled bullpen session yesterday. He’ll be reexamined.
