Technically we’re a bit past the mid-way point of the season. It’s always difficult to find a time to do a top prospect update in the month of July. You’ve got new players entering the system with the draft signing deadline at the start of the month. Then there’s the trade deadline, which this year saw the departure of some players from the system. And then you’ve got to actually see the players, with new information coming out every day.
We only publish two rankings per year, in order to protect the integrity of our ranking system. The rankings really don’t say much if we’re adjusting them every few weeks, as they would be too influenced by short-term results. Because of this, we always want as much information as possible to go into these rankings. That process ended literally yesterday afternoon, when I got my first look at 11th round prep pitcher Michael Burrows, second look at second round prep pitcher Braxton Ashcraft, and reported on some transactions and promotions throughout the system.
And now, the Pirates Prospects mid-season top 50 prospects list is here.
This year we are doing something different for our mid-season top 50 prospect list. Rather than just a list of names, we decided to put together an eBook with reports on every single player. The eBook is available for just $9.99 and is 35 pages long, with two articles exclusive to the book, and information that you can’t get elsewhere on every player in the top 50.
We’re selling the eBook due to struggles the site has seen over the last year, offering up another product for those of you who wish to support the site further and want even more details on the Pirates and their system. You don’t even need to be a subscriber to purchase the book, which means non-subscribers can get info on all of the top 50 prospects for a very low price (although our daily coverage comes with a very low price that amounts to a penny an article, so you should definitely subscribe).
The top 50 list is free below. To purchase the eBook with information on all of these players, head over to the products page.
If you already pre-ordered the book, use the download link in your original email receipt to download the mid-season top 50. Be sure to save it as a different file, so that you don’t overwrite your free copy of the 2018 Prospect Guide, which was the original download.
