Adeiny Hechavarria Joins Pirates; Sean Rodriguez Placed on Disabled List

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria for tonight’s game against the Colorado Rockies. To make room on the 25-man roster, Sean Rodriguez has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left abdomen strain.

The Pirates acquired Hechavarria yesterday from the Tampa Bay Rays along with cash considerations for minor league reliever Matt Seelinger. Hechavarria was hitting .258/.289/.332 in 61 games for the Rays this season before he was placed on waivers, but he is known more for his outstanding defense at shortstop. More info on that in the article linked above.

Rodriguez is hitting .163/.276/.313 in 63 games this season.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long.
