Pirates Recall Alex McRae from Indianapolis; Option Michael Feliz

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned right-handed pitcher Michael Feliz to Indianapolis. To take his place on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Alex McRae has been recalled from Indianapolis.

McRae hasn’t been pitching well since his brief stint with the Pirates earlier this month, allowing nine runs on 19 hits and five walks in 14.1 innings. He didn’t get into any games with Pittsburgh before being sent back to Indianapolis, so he’s still looking to make his big league debut. He’s likely here today because the Pirates needed six innings from their bullpen yesterday and McRae was scheduled to start today. He should be good for up to 100 pitches if needed.

Feliz went on the DL in late June and missed just over two weeks. Since returning, he has given up five runs on 11 hits and two walks in eight innings. Feliz has a 5.53 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 40.2 innings this season.
