Pirates Place Josh Bell on Disabled List; Recall Jose Osuna

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed first baseman Josh Bell on the 10-day disabled list due to a left oblique strain. Bell was injured during an at-bat in the second inning of yesterday’s game and did not come back out on defense in the top of the third. The Pirates have recalled Jose Osuna from Indianapolis to take Bell’s place on the roster.

Osuna hit .317/.377/.491 in 61 games with Indianapolis this season. He has hit five homers this season in Triple-A, and his 24 doubles ties him for fifth most in the International League. Osuna has played 23 games with the Pirates this season, hitting .196/.213/.370 in 46 at-bats. He is in the lineup today, batting fifth and playing first base.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
