The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that Michael Feliz has been activated from the 10-day disabled list and Alex McRae was added to the 40-man roster and called up from the Indianapolis Indians. To make room on the 25-man roster, both Josh Smoker and Dovydas Neverauskas were optioned to Indianapolis.
The Pirates placed Feliz on the disabled list on June 24th with right shoulder inflammation. He was scheduled to throw a sim game today, but the Pirates decided that he was ready to rejoin the team after his bullpen earlier this week.
We broke the news earlier about McRae coming up and mentioned that he was scheduled to start today in Indianapolis, so he gives the Pirates an arm they hope they don’t need, but also one who can throw 100 pitches if necessary. Both Smoker and Neverauskas threw 30+ pitches yesterday and would not have been available. That’s on top of Steven Brault and Tyler Glasnow also not being available today, so changes were necessary.
