Francisco Cervelli Placed on Disabled List; Jacob Stallings Recalled

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed catcher Francisco Cervelli on the 7-day concussion disabled list prior to Friday night’s game. They have recalled catcher Jacob Stallings from Indianapolis to take his place on the 25-man roster. Stallings was just recently with the Pirates for eight days, but he did not get into any games and returned to Indianapolis for the last four days. He was already with the Pirates on the taxi squad just in case Cervelli wasn’t available.

Arden Pabst was promoted from Bradenton to Indianapolis to take Stallings’ place on the Triple-A roster. That was due to the fact that Jackson Williams, who is the third-string catcher for both Altoona and Indianapolis, was placed on the disabled list four days ago and isn’t eligible to be removed until Monday. Williams wasn’t actually injured, they just didn’t have a roster spot for him. Hunter Owen is now the backup catcher for Bradenton, although he started tonight. He caught this spring, but has not been behind the plate until tonight.
