Felipe Vazquez is Being Evaluated After Reporting Left Forearm Discomfort

Published:

PITTSBURGH — Pirates left-handed pitcher Felipe Vazquez is being evaluated after reporting left forearm discomfort, team director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk told reporters after the game on Sunday.

Vazquez blew his third consecutive save in the Pirates’ 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. He was called upon with one out in the eighth inning after Michael Feliz had loaded the bases. Vazquez allowed a run scoring single and walked two batters before being lifted in favor of Steven Brault.

Tomczyk said that Vazquez reported discomfort on his final few pitches of the appearance. His fastball velocity has been down over all this season, but was sitting between 98 and 99 mph on Sunday.

Vazquez has not had any significant health issues during his time with the Pirates. The team expects to be able to give an update on his condition on Monday
