A look at how the current top 30 prospects did today. If a player is in the majors for an extended time (Trevor Williams, Alen Hanson, Jose Osuna), or loses his prospect eligibility, he will be removed from this list. Everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. If a player is out for the season, he will be removed and everyone below him will move up a spot. Removing these guys doesn’t mean they have lost prospect status. It is just an attempt to get more active prospects on the list. Rankings are from the 2017 Prospect Guide, and links on each name go to their Pirates Prospects player pages.

Indianapolis lost 5-3 on Monday, as Dovydas Neverauskas allowed four runs in the bottom of the eighth to give Rochester the win.
Drew Hutchison started and allowed one run over five innings. He ran his pitch count up to 90 by walking four batters and giving up five hits. He had just one clean inning, retiring the side in order in the third. In the fourth frame, Hutchison gave up an RBI single, then issued a walk to load the bases with one out, before working out of the jam. He now has a 4.12 ERA in 54.2 innings this season.
Antonio Bastardo made his second rehab appearance and worked a 1-2-3 inning. Then Angel Sanchez followed with a quick seventh inning, handing the ball off to Neverauskas for the eighth. After getting the first out, he allowed back-to-back doubles to tie the game. That was followed by a two-out walk, then a single that gave Rochester the lead. Brett McKinney followed and allowed a double that scored the fifth and final run. Neverauskas has now given up seven earned runs over his last 4.2 innings and four appearances.
Elias Diaz hit his second homer of the season, which gave Indianapolis a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. The other run scored on a Jason Rogers single in the sixth, which brought home Max Moroff, who had hit his ninth double of the season one batter earlier. Moroff also had two walks in this game and scored two runs. Barrett Barnes had his best game this season, collecting two doubles. In his first 12 games after returning from a Spring Training hamstring injury, Barnes went 4-for-38 at the plate with four singles. Austin Meadows had the day off, just the third game he hasn’t played this season.

Altoona won 3-2 over Erie on Monday afternoon, getting all three runs on solo homers. Jordan Luplow hit two homers to give him ten on the season, while Kevin Kramer added his fifth home run of the year in the fifth inning. The second homer from Luplow came off of Mike Zagurski, who pitched for the Pirates in 2013 and came into the day with 10.2 shutout innings for Erie.
Alex McRae started this game at did not have his best stuff from the start. He allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk in four innings, leaving early due to a high pitch count. The two runs scored on a two-run homer to straight away center field. While only two runs scored, McRae didn’t give up any cheap hits and there were some long outs, plus he got help from a couple base running mistakes by Erie. Miguel Rosario and Sean Keselica finished out the game by combining for five shutout innings. Rosario has allowed one run over 24 innings since his season debut.
Besides the homers, Altoona had a quiet game at the plate. The homers accounted for three of their four hits, with everyone not named Luplow or Kramer combining to go 1-for-25 with nine strikeouts. Jerrick Suiter had the only other hit (a single) and both Wyatt Mathisen and Elvis Escobar drew two walks, accounting for all four Curve free passes. Kramer also reached on a hit-by-pitch in the first inning and then stole his seventh base of the season. He had a strong game on defense as well, so it was a solid all-around game for the Altoona second baseman. Kevin Newman and Connor Joe had the day off.

West Virginia lost 3-2 to Charleston on Monday night, as Cam Vieaux had a rare off night. In his first seven starts combined, Vieaux allowed a total of six runs. That was six games with one run allowed and one game with none. So anything over one would be unusual for him this year. Charleston topped that on one swing in the fourth inning, as Vieaux served up his first home run of the season. He also ran into trouble trying to get through the sixth inning and gave up another run before he was removed with two outs.
Vieaux was doing an outstanding job of getting grounders, with Adrian Valerio providing strong defense at shortstop. He finished with an 11:1 GO/AO ratio. His velocity was not good in this game according to the announcers, who took note the time he hit 91 MPH a couple innings in, saying that was the hardest he threw all night. Vieaux has been in the 88-90 range this season, slightly below where he was last year in Morgantown and that was slightly below where he was in college before getting drafted.
Matt Frawley came on after Vieaux and did a terrific job, stranding three inherited runners in the sixth, then firing two shutout innings, striking out five batters. He has a 1.69 ERA in 26.2 innings this season, striking out 29 batters.
This was an all-around impressive game from Adrian Valerio. He had two hits, extending his hit streak to seven games. He stole his second base of the season and played a terrific game in the field. He also just missed a game tying double in the ninth inning, lining a ball down the left field line that was foul by inches. He has a .277 average after starting the season 1-for-20.
