Minor Moves: Caminero on Rehab, Masterson and Hinsz Added to Rosters

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates made some moves around the minors today, affecting three of their affiliates.

Arquimedes Caminero was assigned to Indianapolis on rehab. He went on the 15-day disabled list on May 25th with a left quadriceps strain. He should be able to get in at least three appearances before he is eligible to be activated from the DL and the Pirates have up to 30 days before they have to activate him.

Justin Masterson has been added to the Indianapolis roster. He threw five innings in his season debut on Sunday for Bradenton. Masterson is scheduled to start tomorrow during a doubleheader.

Frank Duncan was sent back to Altoona. To make room for him, David Whitehead was assigned to the GCL Pirates. The GCL Pirates aren’t playing yet, so Whitehead’s assignment is just a paper move to open a roster spot. Duncan had a 3.38 ERA in 21.2 innings with Indianapolis, striking out 22 batters.

Gage Hinsz has been added to the West Virginia roster for his debut tonight. Mitch Keller has been assigned to Extended Spring Training. This is also just a paper move and Keller isn’t going anywhere. This article breaks down why Hinsz is an interesting prospect to watch and how West Virginia will limit the innings of the pitchers in the Power rotation.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
