AFL: Cody Dickson Throws Scoreless Inning in Glendale Victory

Published:

No Pirates were in the starting lineup on Monday night, as Glendale moved to 3-1 on the season with a 4-2 victory. Cody Dickson came out of the bullpen in the fourth inning and pitched a scoreless inning in his second appearance. He struck out the first two batters he faced, with both going down swinging. Dickson then walked the next batter, who was thrown out stealing three pitches later. He threw 19 pitches total, ten for strikes. He also threw a scoreless inning in his debut last week, giving up a walk and striking out a batter. All the hits and runs given up by Glendale on Monday were allowed in the seventh inning.

This game had PITCHf/x available. Dickson threw 11 fastballs, which were all in the 90-92 MPH range. He recorded both of his strikeouts on off-speed pitches.

*Steven Brault pitched on Friday, but the game ended up being postponed due to a dust storm so his stats won’t count. He went three innings, allowing one run on one hit, three walks and he struck out three batters.

*Austin Meadows represented the Pirates in the Bowman Hitting Challenge on Saturday. He didn’t finish among the top three for the NL representatives.

* Tomorrow’s game begins at 3:35pm EST.

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
