Cole Tucker Placed on Disabled List, Kevin Newman Joins Power Tomorrow

Published:

Last night, the news came down that first round draft pick Kevin Newman was being promoted to West Virginia from Morgantown. Today, Cole Tucker was placed on the disabled list to make room for Newman, who will be joining the team tomorrow. The Power will play today down two infielders, as Erik Forgione was sent to Morgantown to make room for reliever Edgar Santana.

We posted an update on Tucker yesterday. His absence has been due to general soreness according to both Tucker and manager Brian Esposito. Tim Williams covered West Virginia recently and saw Tucker icing his shoulder after games in which he didn’t play, but the answer was just soreness. He last played on July 28th and that was as a DH after a two-day absence.

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
