I had my weekly segment with David Todd on 970 ESPN yesterday, discussing a lot of the latest news with the site, and the news in the Pirates’ minor league system. A few of the highlights, with the podcast found below.
**We discussed whether the Pirates should add a big bat, and then got into a discussion of going for it all this year versus continuing the path of building through the farm system. I think they could trade the right players now and add a big player, but they should keep certain guys who could play a long-term role.
**Deolis Guerra got his first win last night. I talked about what was working for him this year, referencing Ryan Palencer’s article earlier this month about how his off-speed stuff was the key to his success this year.
**I discussed the recent injuries to Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon, and how their injuries could impact the short- and long-term. In Taillon’s case, I think there’s a chance this recent setback with his lower ab strain could hurt his chances of making the majors this year. With all of this, I think Adrian Sampson becomes the guy who could be the best prospect to come up this year.
**We also discussed John Holdzkom (before his DL assignment), Luis Heredia, and Gift Ngoepe.
